As a general guide, longbows commonly use a string about 3" shorter than AMO length. Recurves are often listed around 4" shorter, but many work closer to 3.5" shorter.
We often lean slightly longer because a string can usually be shortened a little by adding twists. A string that is too short gives you less room for adjustment.
